| Computers
have changed our daily lives saving us time and creating jobs, but
they have also helped to eliminate jobs, and just occasionally it
is quicker to do something by hand or pen and paper the "old
fashioned way". But like it or not computers are here to stay,
there are at least two generations that have been born and never known
life without personal computers.
Ever
since the first Mac, with a mouse and keyboard, was introduced in
1984, personal and business computing has changed, the Internet
has grown and generally people are divided into two camps. Mac users
and PC users with each side claiming it's operating system (OS)
is better than the opposition. In all fairness both OS's have their
merits, and the Internet and their respective browsers are bringing
things even closer. Additionally several software companies including
Adobe, Macromedia and Microsoft have now developed software applications,
whose files will run on both OS's providing of course the application
has been installed. This means in today's workplace or even at home
there is the possibility that Macs and PC's may compete for the
same attention and desktop space.
Several
years ago it was assumed that if you used a Mac you were a bit of
a maverick and used your computer for some creative purpose such
as graphic design, music composition, animation, film editing or
video game creation. If you used a PC then it was considered that
you were a bit of a geek or used a PC for data entry. But again
software developers have narrowed the gap and now both platforms
have many applications that can create near identical results.
